Mission and tasks
The War Studies University (WSU) continues the heritage of The Higher War College (1919-1946), the General Staff Academy (1947-1990) and National Defence University (1990-2016). The university educates officers for the needs of commands, staffs, universities and military and civilian institutions connected with state defence. It also prepares civilian students to perform tasks in the domain of national security and crisis response systems.
Within the structure of the University there is the War Games and Simulation Centre – unique in Poland and one of the most advanced in Europe; Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence Training Centre and the Centre for Security Research, which provides analysis and expert opinions for the needs of public authorities.
The University provides its students with well equipped lecture halls, classrooms and laboratories; 12 conference rooms; a library and a reading room with a computer data base linked to an Intranet catalogue with approximately 1 million volumes. Students have at their disposal almost 1000 beds in hotels and halls of residence, a refectory, a restaurant and a well developed sports’ infrastructure, composed of: sports halls, an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a gym, a stadium with a running track and tennis courts. War Studies University students can participate in student exchange programmes with partner universities within Erasmus + Program as well as undergo special military training for the needs of National Reserve Forces.
